On this episode John & Eric describe Indemnification & the state of Qualified Immunity in the NYPD. They also explore the Hypocrisy of NYC Mayor Eric Adams expecting NYC's Law department to represent him against a recent allegation of sexual assault that was made against him by a former co worker during his time with the NYPD. Historically Officers accused of such an allegation unrelated to their duties would be denied representation and indemnification. They compare this to the numerous NYPD officers who are denied representation for incidents that are related to their duties and responsibilities. John & Eric discuss the ongoing case of NYPD officer Juan Perez who responded to a 911 call and was attacked by an emotionally disturbed person. Officer Perez defended himself by throwing 6 closed fist strikes in order to gain compliance. The emotionally disturbed man was taken to hospital treated & released. 2 years after the incident he was indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and was told by NYC Corporation Council he would not be indemnified for defending himself during an on duty incident.
