Korean Space Race Intensifies As South Korea Launches Spy Satellite | Pyongyang Warns US Of “War”
A SpaceX rocket launched South Korea’s first military spy satellite from the Vandenberg US Space Force Base in California on December 1. The Yonhap news agency reported that the satellite successfully reached orbit soon after the lift-off. Reaching orbit would mean that South Korea has acquired its first domestically built spy satellite to monitor nuclear-armed North Korea. Seoul’s reconnaissance satellite, carried by one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets, has intensified a space race on the peninsula. The launch comes less than two weeks after Pyongyang successfully put its spy satellite into orbit. North Korea said it will respond to any US interference in space by eliminating the viability of US satellites. Watch this video to know more.
