COP28: World leaders gather for climate summit

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, mainly caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels.

World leaders can't save the planet with a fire hose of fossil fuels - that was the warning from the UN chief Antonio Gutteres to the COP28 summit in Dubai, after scientists said that 2023 was set to be the warmest year in history.

The leaders also heard from King Charles - who urged them to take "genuine transformational action" to curb greenhouse gas transmissions, declaring that the "hope of the world" rested on their decisions.
