This is a great new lesson over the song "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen. This song uses the Lydian Mode. I've created a similar sounding backing track to solo over. This song is in the key of B major but as I was playing around with it, it was pretty obvious that the B Lydian, which technically puts the song in the key of F# Major, but for me, B Lydian feels and sounds better, so that's what we'll focus on in this lesson. As with all my lessons, I break down the scale shape and give you guitar solo ideas for the song if you were to carve out a place for some guitar licks or wanted to create an instrumental to play over. There are a few places on the fretboard you can play the B Lydian scale. When you incorporate different boxes or shapes along the fretboard and find places where you can incorporate octaves of the same shapes, it makes it a lot easier to unlock the fretboard, put the shapes themselves into your muscle memory, and help you fly all over the fretboard playing the right notes, playing in the right key, no matter where you're at on the fretboard. The whole point is to train your fingers to go where you want them to go every time, which works very well for improvising. For this song, pentatonic also works quite well, so we'll also look at double stops and 5-note licks that would work well over this song. But I want you to have options, so we'll look at the 7-note shape and the 5-note shape. What works best for you? What sounds best? Let me know in the comments.
