This is coming locally, but the mayor of the largest city in my county barely lost his mayoral election due to a 5 way race. The Republicans managed to win because of this, evenly splitting the city council between the 2 parties with an independent being the tie breaker. This is the first time the Democrat Party has not had full control over this city in 140 years. The Democrat mayor who lost by roughly 2 percentage points died 2 days ago after battling an extended illness that has not been brought to the public, but if you looked at him now and previous pictures you could tell something was wrong. He was 66.
