Trametes versicolor / Coriolus versicolor is one of the most studied and clinically most important mushrooms used for the treatment of numerous types of cancer. The research has mainly focused on the anti-tumor properties of two pharmacologically active protein-polysaccharide complexes or proteoglycans, called PSK (Polysaccharide-K or Krestin) and PSP (Polysaccharide-Peptide) which have been evaluated in large-scale clinical trials. Such compounds have been shown to be very immunotherapeutic in cancer treatments, especially if combined with conventional treatments, with no adverse effects or toxicity.
