Following an investigation by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has detected the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a backyard flock from Bay County.
This is the first case of this strain in Bay County since the disease was first detected in the state in 2022.
Officials warn, as wild birds continue to migrate, it is crucial for every bird owner to take steps to protect their flock from this virus.
