Alright, I have had a few of you question how I could run my car in -30C winter without the engine starting. Well I figured it out. Your car has a safety feature you didn't even know about. When you press the defrost heat mode, your engine will start. This is to produce a fast heat to clean your window. This is not a new feature. My old 2008 ford escape hybrid would not cycle into hybrid mode when defrost was selected. That was to ensure a steady flow of heat was produced. I will show you that once your car goes through its warm up you can have defrost selected and run in ev mode. But as soon as the heat is gone from the engine it will start again. To avoid this, simply run in Auto mode. You can run your car in EV at any temp in Auto mode. Combine that with a cracked window to keep your windshield clear and you can reproduce my results. Thanks for watching everyone!
