NPD Abuse - Ignoring a Narcissist - No Deposit To “Relationship Account”

Is it ever best to not ignore a narcissist? Is ignoring a narcissist the same as no contact? Why do many have fear of ignoring a narcissist?
In any relationship type with a Narcissist, at some point, or other, choices come down to supplying the narcissist and sacrificing yourself or taking care of yourself. Why is this so important and equally as difficult for so many and especially for adult children of a Narcissist parent that is aging?
