A Coast Guard Tradition Continues This Christmas Season

A United States Coast Guard tradition since 1999 continued this past weekend.
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw was loaded with 1,200 Christmas Trees, all done by volunteers.
The annual voyage from Northern Michigan made the trip across Lake Michigan to Chicago where the trees will be delivered to families in need.
Although the Coast Guard has been handling the shipment for 24 years, it’s a tradition more than a century in the making, in honor of two brothers who gave their lives delivering the trees.
