Christmas Pollen Patties for the Bees - winter feeding colored pollen patties for the bees Christmas

Christmas pollen patties for the bees. Red and green to celebrate the season. Winter beehive feeding. Pollen patties made from pollen substitute and placed in the hive in December. December beekeeping is usually tricky and I hope this doesn't cause a population explosion in December. My bees love a good pollen patty, even in December. Winter beehive feeding is tough enough and I've always heard one shouldn't use pollen patties in the winter because it will cause the queen to start laying. Well, I used them and the queens are all laying. Last warm day in January I checked the hives and the bees had five full frames of brood each.

Normally, a brood explosion in January would be a bad thing, but these bees live in a climate-controlled hive that is kept warm by internal beehive heaters. This allows me to continue to raise brood and boost my population for spring.

If you are interested in building internal beehive heaters you can follow my four-part step-by-step video series in my upload stream. You can also find it in the Things I Build playlist on this channel.

If you are considering becoming a beekeeper or starting beekeeper as a hobby this is the channel for you. I will show you everything I learned in my first year of beekeeping and you can learn with me as I experience and overcome challenges I encounter in my second year and beyond. I will also feature some how-to videos because I am perpetually curious and creative and am always building something.

Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.
