FHF Robert Ligne 10 5''' Multicam Twelve Hours
4K Multicam Realtime Restoration of 100 Year Old FHF Silver Trench Watch
00:00:00 introduction overview
00:09:38 prepping the donor movement hands
01:13:00 examining the sprung hinge on the 925 silver case
01:15:31 removing the FHF Robert ligne 10 5'"movement from its case
01:21:41 actually fixing the sprung case hinge after ultrasonic cleaning of the case
01:36:55 cleaning the dial
01:48:37 first disassembly of the movement for cleaning
02:04:44 carelessly turning the reverse threaded ratchet wheel screw the wrong way and stripping it
02:43:40 removing the mainspring from the barrel for cleaning and finalizing the cleaning
02:46:30 examining the disassembled movement fresh from the cleaning machine
02:53:07 reinserting the cleaned mainspring using mainspring winder
02:59:47 unnecessarily removing and lubricating the barrel wall (manual movement mainspring barrel wall should not be lubricated)
03:10:31 first reassembly (with lubrication) of the movement
03:13:34 using a Star staking tool to reduce the size of the worn center hole in the main plate
03:20:45 continuing the first reassembly of the movment
04:42:04 lubricating the pallet stones and escape wheel teeth and realizing that the movement is still not going to run
04:44:05 examining power flow and then reassembling the dial side of the movement including the keyless works
05:28:05 placing the dial back on the movement
05:43:31 casing the movement
05:48:37 putting the previously re-fitted hands back on the movement
05:54:16 realizing the cannon pinion fitting is completely messed up and therefore another complete disassembly will be required
05:56:27 removing the movement from the case again
06:02:33 puzzling over the cannon pinion issue (I'm completely confused at this point)
06:05:31 changing the orientation of the spring in the keyless works (I think I actually changed it from the correct orientation to the wrong orientation but both seem to work)
06:07:30 searching Youtube for help with the keyless works problem
06:25:11 more puzzling over the cannon pinion problem (I mistakenly call the minute hand the second hand a few times just to make it even more confusing)
06:56:02 cleaning the center wheel and pinion with acetone
07:03:54 removing the center staff with the staking tool and examining its friction fit with the hollow center pinion
07:28:20 examining and tightening the cannon pinion with a staking tool
08:02:56 reassembling and testing the movement with the reworked center wheel pinion
08:17:25 testing power flow without the cannon pinion (still not working perfectly)
08:20:52 investigating attaching the cannon pinion and testing hand setting function
08:22:28 realizing that the center shaft is going to be too long for the crystal and shortening the minute hand side of the center shaft using a pin vice and sand paper
08:54:07 testing the shortened center shaft
09:01:56 testing the power flow with hands on the movement (including a sub-seconds hand which the movement is not made for!)
09:17:07 putting the dial back on the movement and casing it again
09:38:55 putting the hands back on the watch while backing the center shaft with an aluminum block so as not to push out the center staff
09:40:13 testing the function of the movement for timekeeping (still not working) and setting and then putting the new 19.1mm Sternkreuz crystal on the case
09:49:28 examining the cosmetically finished rebuild (still some work needed on the balance and escapement)
10:01:29 removing the movement from the case and partially disassembling to continue looking at the power flow issues in the area of the escapement and balance assembly
11:01:01 refitting the balance assembly and fiddling with the escapement until it's running somewhat reliably
11:13:17 just as I'm about to finally case it I isolate the power issue to the pallet fork assembly and tweak it, and then re-case the movement one last time
11:22:44 adjusting the distance between the hour hand and the dial
11:24:38 analyzing the cased watch on the timegrapher
11:42:19 putting a vintage strap on it and admiring the final results of this insanely fun amateur restoration!
Thanks for watching!
