His latest one is Napoleon with his one-time Gladiator actor, Joaquin Phoenix, playing the title role. Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most divisive, incendiary figures in world history and this movie gives you a robust look at his personal, government and military life. He’s as famous for his frenetic relationship with the love of his life, Josephine, as he is for his battles. Vanessa Kirby, from The Queen and the Mission: Impossible movies, plays Josephine in a role that has to go toe to toe with a legendarily charismatic figure. David Scarpa, who also wrote Ridley Scott’s All The Money In The World, pens the screenplay. Scott also casts a veritable who’s who of classic actors as Napoleon’s French contemporaries, his enemy the British, and other European historical figures in the story of Napoleon.
