The full story of Colombia Tennessee and the Maury Courthouse. The 1947 "race" riot had roots in the lynching of an innocent black teenager from that courthouse balustrade on the night of Veterans Day. Even that lynching was not the first to occur on courthouse property. It was at the center of the heart of the KKK. The 47 riot, which was a riot of Tennessee State Troopers and not black Americans, sparked the national end to lynchings and federal segregation and the beginning of civil rights.
