"They could fly over, and they still wouldn't see us." Netflix has unveiled the full official trailer for Spanish director J.A. Bayona's latest film Society of the Snow, which premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival and has played at many other fests. Based on a true story, which was already turned into the movie Alive in the 90s. In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been flying a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes mountains. Only 29 of the 45 passengers survived. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. A story of endurance & perseverance. The film's full cast includes: Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi, Rafael Federman, Fernando Contigiani García, Francisco Romero, Esteban Kukuriczka, Diego Vegezzi, Valentino Alonso, Tomás Wolf, Felipe Otaño, Agustín Della Corte, Andy Pruss, Blas Polidori, Felipe Ramusio, & Simón Hempe. With music composed by Michael Giacchino. I saw this in Venice and wrote a positive review, as it's more emotional than I was expecting, and utterly harrowing in some of the most visceral & unsettling ways. This one is worth a watch.

Society of the Snow, also known as La Sociedad de la Nieve in Spanish, is directed by acclaimed Spanish producer / filmmaker J.A. Bayona, director of the films The Orphanage, The Impossible, A Monster Calls, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, along with TV work on "Penny Dreadful" and "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", plus many shorts and music videos previously. The screenplay is written by J.A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, Nicolás Casariego. Based on the Book "The Society of the Snow" written by Pablo Vierci. It's produced by Belén Atienza, Sandra Hermida, and J.A. Bayona. This first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival (read our review).
