Alan Watts – Leave The World Alone (Shots of Wisdom 51)

Man's main mission in life seems to be solving the problems of the world. Experience has shown, however, that when trying to find solutions for certain problems, we often create bigger ones. The challenge lies in finding solutions while realizing our superficial knowledge of ourselves as well as of the world we are trying to enhance. Our language and thinking systems are inadequate to grasp the world's complexity. We mistake symbols for reality. Our concept of self, or personality, is a misleading abstraction. This notion binds to bodily tension, creating a false sense of identity.

Alan Watts suggests therefore putting first things first, thus reconnecting with reality and discarding the illusory ego. We'll then realize that we should better leave the world alone.
