People Are Skeptical Of Authenticity

In a world inundated with sketchy social media platforms, fake news, the rise of artificial intelligence, and just all-around bad people, it’s no wonder the word of the year for 2023 is “authentic.”

Merriam-Webster released their word of the year, and in their statement, they said, “We don’t always trust what we see anymore. We sometimes don’t believe our own eyes or our own ears. We are now recognizing that authenticity is a performance itself.”

The word, they said, is generally well searched on the dictionary website, but this year it reached new heights.

There was no large world event that correlated to the spike in interest, rather it was constant throughout the year.
