Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has criticized the move by the Special Forces Command to restore the glory of the Kampala Capital City Roads.
Lukwago reveals that the pace is unsatisfactorily and tips government to revise the initiative.
The Lord Mayor bases his arguments on the increasing flooding amid the ongoing road maintenance in Kampala.
In June 2023, President Yoweri kaguta Museveni through the Prime Minister Robinah Nabajja, tasked the Special Forces Command with the maintenance of Kampala's roads.
The Special Forces Command initiated construction and maintenance works in Kampala Central Division following a directive from the President to the Prime Minister.
While addressing the media, Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago expressed displeasure with the pace of the reconstruction efforts, stating that the focus has since remained to selected areas.
Lukwago also questioned the source of funding for the projects undertaken by the SFC, considering that these projects fall within the city's jurisdiction
Over 60 billion was allocated to KCCA through the Uganda road fund to cater for the city’s dilapidated roads and drainage systems.
On Tuesday morning, the senior presidential advisor on special operations Muhoozi keinerugaba, toured the ongoing progress of the rehabilitation of the Kampala city roads.
