"There was a big old switcheroo. We did the trials on this very controlled synthetic process. At the last minute, we snuck under the radar and said, but we're going to make all the rest of them using something we've barely tested. And then that's what got rolled out into billions of people's arms."

The shots given in the Pfizer trials were not made the same way as the shots later rolled out to the general public, says pathologist Dr. Ryan Cole.
