Bodycam video shows response after 6 people killed in crash involving bus on Ohio highway
Nearly two weeks ago, a charter bus carrying students from a high school was rear-ended by a semitruck, resulting in a fiery crash on an Ohio highway.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, six people were killed, including three students, and over a dozen were injured in the five-vehicle crash on Interstate 70.
According to OSP, a charter bus, two commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles were traveling westbound on I-70 when the chain-reaction crash occurred. At least three of the vehicles subsequently caught fire as a result of the crash.
Tuscarawas Valley Schools said band students from their district were on the charter bus that was involved in the crash. The district said students and chaperones were on their way to the Ohio School Boards Association conference in Columbus when the crash happened.
According to OSP, three teenagers on the bus were killed in the crash. They were identified as John W. Mosley, 18, Jeffery D. Worrell, 18, and Katelyn N. Owens, 15. The school district confirmed Tuesday night that the three teenagers killed were students.
OSP also said that one of the passenger vehicles was occupied by three individuals. All three were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the crash and were identified as Dave Kennat, 56, Kristy Gaynor, 39, and Shannon Wigfield, 45.
The school district said that a teacher and two parent chaperones were the three people killed in the passenger vehicle.
An investigation later determined that four of the vehicles involved in the crash were slowing for traffic when a semitruck rear-ended an SUV, then the bus, igniting a fire.
An investigation into the crash by the National Transportation Safety Board remains ongoing.
On Monday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol released bodycam video of troopers responding to the crash, showing law enforcement responding to a fiery scene along the interstate.
In one portion of the bodycam video, a trooper is seen going inside the bus as flames continue to engulf the back of it. The trooper is heard in the video yelling, "anyone here? Anyone?"
The video also shows a trooper and several other men pulling one victim out of an SUV.
