Around a dozen tuskers went on the rampage in the middle of the night, flattening homes and terrifying locals.

The enraged elephants apparently charged out of the village when the locals gave chase - and one toppled into a well.

Locals said it trumpeted through the night until authorities arrived the next day to lift it from the hole using a huge crane and truck during a 41-hour rescue effort.
