In November 2014, a deal was struck between Dr Tedros Adhonam, then Ethiopian Minister for Foreign Affairs (now WHO, Director-General) and Ireland's President Michael D Higgins, the exact details of which are unclear. There seems to have been a falling out in November 2021, with Ethiopia expelling four Irish diplomats from Addis Ababa. A statement said this was 'due to the positions Ireland has articulated internationally, including at the UN Security Council, on the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia'. Now it looks like the airline is moving from Dublin back to Rome for its transatlantic stopover.
