Senator Feinstein Dies in Office and Government Prepares to Shut Down | 9/29/23

California Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away at her Washington, D.C., home just hours after casting a vote on Thursday. Feinstein served for over 30 years in the Senate. Governor Gavin Newsom of California will be responsible for appointing her replacement, and he has already been clear about his intention to choose a black woman for the position. Elon Musk's visit to the Texas-Mexico border continues to draw attention to issues surrounding immigration and border security. Notably, 21 Republicans voted alongside Democrats against the continuing resolution, which would have given the government 30 days to secure full funding. If lawmakers do not act swiftly, the government is set to shut down on Sunday at 12:01 a.m.
