In this story we see the angel of the Lord nudging Balaam's donkey to do the right thing. The angel and donkey keep making it harder and more painful, but Balaam is very stubborn. He is tempted by Balak. Eventually Balaam realizes that the donkey could see things he couldn't and truly was trying to protect him. The donkey is like your loved ones who are trying to get your to get help. Balak is the addiction telling you that you can ave everything. Balaam is you...or at least your addicted self.
