WELCOME to my first flight review in 2017. On 9th January, I flew Malaysia Airlines MH73 service from Hong Kong (HKG) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL). The operating aircraft was an Airbus A330-300. As I am a Oneworld Sapphire member, I have access to priority check-in, priority boarding and access to the lounges in HKG.
My comment to the lounges I visited: The Qantas HK lounge was spacious and quiet in the noon. The staff were friendly and happy to help. Since Japan Airlines recommends the Qantas HK lounge to their premium customers, a lot of food was in Japanese style, this included Japanese curry, miso soup and teriyaki chicken. They were all tasty. I ordered HK style milk tea at the bar which was good too. The Wing was quite busy and I had trouble finding a seat in most areas. I ordered 2 bowls of noodles in the Noddle Bar. Then I had a quick shower before my way to the gate in the new satellite. Qantas HK lounge is full of surprises, so even if you are travelling with Cathay Pacific, I highly recommend the Qantas lounge. It’s next to the immigration (above gate 15).
My comment to the flight: I received a warm welcome from the flight attendants, and as soon as I reached my seat, I found myself a pillow, a blanket and a headset. I was surprised by this since it was just a short flight. The flight was (nearly) 100% full, but I still found the cabin spacious and comfortable. The legroom is great (even for a long haul flight), the recline angle is big as well. The screen was not responsive at all. Fortunately, there was a remote controller which was easier to use. There were two lunch options and they were both delicious. The staff were happy to offer me an extra drink along with my lunch. Although the inflight entertainment system is fine for short flights, it might be a bit boring for long flights as the amount of movies were limited. The lavatories were kept clean and neat throughout the flight. Overall, I had a good flight. I would recommend Malaysia Airlines A330-300 economy class to everyone. I would like to try their economy class in A380 and A350.
MH73 was downgraded from an A380 to B777, then to B737. MH has recently upgraded to a larger A330-300 which I experienced on the 9th January. MH flies three times a day from KUL to HKG (2x B737 & 1 A330), its Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific flies to KUL four to five times a day with many different aircrafts including the B777-300ER and A330-300. Air Asia and Malindo Air also fly between the cities with their A320 and B737. None of the airlines in Skyteam and Star Alliance fly between the cities.
