The ninth edition of the famous tournament was the first to be held outside of a tier one nation and the first to be held in Asia with Japan being fantastic hosts and also reaching the quarter-finals in the process as they had a fantastic tournament with the world given a true Oriental welcome to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Unfortunately, though Japan had done everything to put on a great show with the world watching, nothing could have prepared them nor anybody from the horror that would be Typhoon Hagibis which would strike the country during the tournament, killing 118 people in the process and being the most devastating typhon to hit Japan since Typhoon Fran in 1976.

Still, the tournament would continue after it dissipated and with England and Wales leading the charge for the Northern Hemisphere could one of them reach the final (for Wales, it would be their chance to put right the wrongs of their defeat by France eight years previous in New Zealand and thus the opportunity to play in their first ever final, whilst England were chasing their fourth appearance as finalists) or would it be a case of Southern triumph yet again with New Zealand deadly, Australia determined and South Africa the tricksters.

Who would triumph this time around?
