On The Brighton Road by Richard Barham Middleton

We might still get some frost before the month is out, and it is very bright and cold today, so I thought I'd post this little gem. It's only short, but it's a very well observed sketch of a man down on his luck who goes tramping the roads of Sussex through the Downs, and it has a twist.

Though it's Edwardian in date, it feels more modern: 1930s I mean.

Richard Middleton has a great story called The Ghost Ship which is very funny. I might do that one day.
