The Midnight Folk is one of two beloved childrens' novels written by poet laureate John Masefield. featuring Kay Harker. The other is The Box of Delights. Both have been dramatised on BBC television and radio. The Midnight Folk was published in 1927. Kay is home-schooled by his governess (though they wouldn't have called it that then) and has to learn Latin and History to please his pompous guardian.
