Can the Israel Hamas Hostage Ceasefire Prevent Regional War? Houthi Rebels Seize Tanker in Red Sea!

Israel and Hamas are reportedly on the verge of a deal to exchange Israeli hostages in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners in Israel, and are promising a five-day ceasefire to get this done. While the ceasefire is certainly necessary to bring the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza to an end, it also dramatically lowers the prospect of regional escalation.

Houthi rebels are now using Israel's attack on Gaza as the justification for their seizure of a tanker ship in the Red Sea, taking 25 crew members hostage in the process, and have already launched multiple missile barrages in Israel's direction. As long as these tit-for-tat, revenge attacks take place, the more likely it is that Iran and Israel, and their respective allies, come to blows in an almighty global disaster. All of the geopolitical dominos may come tumbling down.

With over 12,000 dead in Gaza, and rising numbers in the West Bank, the world must prioritize a complete cessation of hostilities. If you don't think it can get any worse than it already is - think again.
