With Most of these ROLL THE ROCK, Freemasonic, Artists, We the People are being pushed to Care More about Life and Work Harder, so as to KNOW More about both Ourselves and God's Truth...and with REM, each album was purposefully more and more complex in it's Songwriting and Aims, so that we too would Grow in this Way...

Automatic For the People is simply One of the Finest Albums ever crafted by ANY Band and in ANY Genre of Music...from beginning to end, Michael Stipe was attempting to challenge us to LEARN about where Life comes from, and conversely, where Death exists...in Verse One, it was about Death in the Cities...

'Hey now, little speedyhead,
The read on the speed-meter says
You have to go to task in the city,
Where people drown and people serve,
Don't be shy, you're just dessert
Is only just light years to go...'

But in the First Chorus, Michael Stipe shares with us what is in his Mind, and how he learned to change his own Life around by embracing the Essentials, which are found in Nature...

'Me, my thoughts are flower strewn
With ocean storm, bayberry moon
I have got to leave to find my way
Watch the road and memorize
This life that passed before my eyes
And nothing is going my way...'

We have to Leave the Cities to FIND OUR WAY, so that we may Know Happiness, Health and Life...and thru the rest of the Song, Micheal shares with us Clues as to what is Important in Life, or Essential, as in Plants, Berries, Fruits, Leaves and even Bark...and please note, that throughout the Song, All of the examples of Life that Michael gives to us (Bayberry Moon, Bergamot, Vetiver, Ginger, Lemon, Indigo, Coriander Stem ~ which is Cilantro ~ and even Rose of Hay), are ALL ALKALINE substances that can be used as Food, as Health Tinctures, Essential Oils, Dyes, etc...

And without these sings, he sings two sings, one, that we are Light Years Away from the Truth without them, and two, that Nothing goes our Way in Life...and in Verse Three, he reveals his True Intent with this song as well...

'There's no one left to take the lead,
But I tell you and you can see
We're closer now than light years to go,
Pick up here and chase the ride,
The river empties to the tide,
Fall into the ocean...'

Here Michael Stipe is telling us that NO ONE within the Mainstream or Celebrity is fully telling us these Truths, and that within these songs, he is revealing Truth for us to See, to Embrace, and to Change, so that WE may 'Take the Lead' and begin Changing the World, once Mind and Heart at a time...that we are to Chase the River to the Tide, which is the Ocean, which is an Allegory for Seeking the Truth in Nature and thus, Finding both Mother Earth and Father Heaven, and becoming ONE with the Sea, which represents the Universe, or Creation...

And in the Song's Final Chorus, Michael shares with us what we Must Do and Demonstrate to Find the River Within Ourselves, and thus have LIFE...

'Strength and courage overrides,
The privileged and weary eyes,
Of river poet search naiveté
Pick up here and chase the ride,
The river empties to the tide,
All of this is coming your way...'

Strength and Courage Trump All, remain True and Innocent (Naivete) versus than Jaded and Spoiled, and that if we incorporate these things into our Lives, then EVERYTHING will be Coming Our Way, as it should have, All Along...
