Miyamoto Musashi, a famous 17th century Japanese swordsman, is known not only for his swordsmanship, but also for his philosophical writings. "Dokkodo" is a document attributed to Musashi and which translates as "The Precepts of the One Way." This text contains 21 principles that reflect his philosophy of life and his advice for living consciously and ethically. The principles of "Dokkodo" are imbued with ideas about self-discipline, detachment and the ephemeral nature of existence
