Tucson Police release bodycam video from an officer shooting at Reid Park that injured K9 Raven

The suspect from a standoff at Reid Park in Tucson earlier this month was responsible for shooting a Tucson Police Department K-9, according to a report released Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team said 37-year-old Johnathon Drattlo was injured in the Oct. 8 shooting and will face numerous felonies when released from the hospital.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when Drattlo called 911 to say he was armed and in crisis.

TPD officers cleared the park and surrounding areas while mental health professionals spoke with Drattlo to try to de-escalate the situation.

During the negotiations, Drattlo began to walk away from officers and toward an open area of the park.

That is when TPD K-9 Raven was released.

Drattlo allegedly raised his gun and began shooting in the direction of officers, and Raven was struck.

Around the same time, three officers fired their rifles and hit Drattlo.

Drattlo suffered life-threatening injuries but survived.

Raven was taken to Valley Animal Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

Authorities said no one else was injured in this incident.
