Flashback: The Citizen's Arrest & Self-defence Act (Bill C-26)

In 2012, the Minister of Justice & Attorney General of Canada, Rob Nicholson, brought forward Bill C-26 known as The Citizen's Arrest and Self-defence Act, which came into force on March 11, 2013 under the Harper administration. The legislation replaced the old Criminal Code provisions on self-defence and defence of property with new and reformed defences for Canadian citizens.

In Meeting 18 of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights (February 7, 2012), you will also see appearances from Federal Court Justice, Catherine Kane, who happens to be the judge in our current legal case (CCFR v Canada). She was the Director General and Senior General Counsel for the Department of Justice at the time of this video.
