The push for more gun laws in the state have been signed into law by Governor Whitmer, yesterday (Monday).

Whitmer signed legislation that prohibits individuals convicted of a misdemeanor related to domestic violence from possessing firearms for at least an eight-year-period.

State law currently includes firearm restrictions for those with felonies related to domestic abuse, but no law has existed for misdemeanor domestic violence.

Along with the eight-year ban, those now convicted must also have completed the terms of imprisonment and paid all fines before they can purchase, possess, or use a firearm.
