- CSK had a flying start with Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 off 16) and Devon Conway (47 off 25) adding 74 runs for the first wicket in 6.5 overs. Conway was the Player of the Match for his explosive knock. Noor Ahmad, the young Afghan spinner, dismissed both the openers in his third over to bring GT back into the game.
- CSK's middle order kept the momentum going with Shivam Dube (32* off 21), Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 13) and Ambati Rayudu (19 off 8) playing some crucial cameos. Mohit Sharma, the veteran pacer, took three wickets in the penultimate over to make it a tense finish. CSK needed 10 runs off the last two balls with Jadeja on strike. He smashed a full toss from Hardik Pandya over long-on for a six and then sliced a wide yorker over point for a four to seal the victory for CSK.
- CSK lifted their fifth IPL trophy and became the most successful team in the history of the tournament. MS Dhoni, the CSK captain, praised his team for their resilience and performance throughout the season.
