DEATH OF PARK LAYNE DRIVE-IN - An Alternate Version

I grew up in Park Layne, Ohio, and have always loved the Park Layne Drive-In. That place has always been very special to me for many reasons: after my parents had moved to Park Layne in the early 1960's my mother worked the concession stand at that Drive-in. She did this job - selling food for money - with no cash register. Then as a family, when I was old enough, we used to go there and watch movies - and it was always a Double-Feature! I remember jumping all around the playground at the age of five down in front of the screen as the sun went down - and then retreating back to the safety of the family car when the pre-show cartoons began to roll across the screen. Many years later, after securing a legal work permit at the age of 16 (and with no involvement from my mother AT ALL) - I wound up working the very same job in the summer of 1980 - and still with no cash register!!

This brief interlude is my attempt to expand upon the concept of the [original] film it is based upon - which is my effort from 2010 called, "Death of Park Layne Drive-In 12/30/09." That movie was shot from a laptop computer that I was carrying around in my arms because it was the only camera I had at the time. The final movie showing at the then-deserted auto-ampitheatre was in 2007; and the lot had remained abandoned for years. I had to go ahead and capture what I could on that day when I had the chance to because for a long time there had been too many strong rumors that the place was going to be torn down - and sadly, it eventually was.

The footage in the original film is dark and it shakes a lot - - - which, after nearly two years, finally gave me the idea to create a different kind of Park Layne Drive-In tour based upon still photographs that I took during the "film shoot" on the very same day (and with the very same laptop computer) - making this movie not a sequel to the original; but because the original is comprised solely of unedited, moving footage, this film is best characterized as an alternate version to the original that was also spawned from the photographic results of that very special day - making it at the very least, in my humble opinion, an equal to the original.

THIS FILM IS DEDICATED TO MY MOTHER.
