World-first programme specialises in health offemale rowers - BBC News
"With this project, we've realised the importance ofeating, looking after yourself, recovery and making ourbody strong for performance, not just to look at."
A new British Rowing research project, ProjectMinerva, is focussed on supporting the health of female athletes.
Using saliva testing to track hormones and themenstrual cycle alongside other training markers suchas heart rate monitors to measure exertion, the projectaims to make training more personalised andproductive, in turn producing healthier and stronger athletes.
Project Minerva started a year ago with just eightvolunteers - now, all but a handful of the GB squad are taking part.
The hope is that the initiative will be rolled out acrossother elite sports in years to come.
