STORYLINE:
State-of-the-art airplanes of a wide variety of models and some of the world's most advanced aviation technology are on display at the five-day Dubai Air Show, which opened on Monday.
The event this year comes after aviation bounced back after the grounding of the coronavirus pandemic, even as Israel’s war with Hamas clouds regional security.
The air show is taking place at Al Maktoum Airport at Dubai World Central.
It is the city-state’s second airfield after Dubai International Airport, which is the world’s busiest for international travel and the home base for Emirates.
While commercial aviation takes much of the attention, arms manufacturers also have exhibitions at the show.
The air show this year comes amid the Israel-Hamas war, as well as Russia’s war on Ukraine, which will likely influence the event.
EDGE, an Emirati company, displayed various military products including rocket launchers and drones.
"There was a lot of interest in drones or unmanned systems for many reasons including the new approach in the military operations," said Ahmed Hassan Khoury, head of strategy at EDGE.
He added that because demand for drones is high, EDGE has invested a lot in this sector.
