In an exclusive interview with BBC correspondent Steven Rosenberg, Alexander Lukashenko told his version of events regarding the migrant crisis on the border of Belarus and Poland.
Lukashenko said that he does not care what Western countries think of him and whether local governments consider him the legitimate leader of Belarus.
The Belarusian politician also admitted that during the suppression of protests after the 2020 presidential election, Belarusian security forces used force against the protesters.
Lukashenka calls the official election result real, and considers all oppositionists in Belarus to be traitors and agents of the West.
According to Lukashenko, the Union of Belarus with Russia was and will remain a union of two independent states.
