The Alpine Hunters Battalions ("Bataillons de Chasseurs alpins"). They are an elite of the regular French Land Forces, specialised in fighting in mountains and rugged environments.

The 27th Alpine Hunters Battalion (27 BCA) was deployed twice in Afghanistan (2008/2009 then 2011/2012) and they lost one soldier during the Dinner Out Operation (2009).
