Tory benefit changes will see people die, but Labour want them tougher.

Jeremy Hunt is planning more lethal benefit changes whilst also planning tax cuts & Labour is complaining they don;t go far enough!
Right, so Jeremy Hunt’s plans for benefit claimants, as the government returns to a shirkers vs workers mantra are set to make life even worse for disabled people, who are of course amongst such claimants, but always get left out of the narrative since otherwise a lot of people wouldn’t support it, save those who think they can walk off an amputation, or Long Covid is just a bad cough, we’ve all met those types and for them a policy like this is red meat. When you add into the equation that Hunt is planning tax cuts in the autumn statement too, the cruel senselessness of what they’re doing really does become a bit blatant and obvious, but if you were also hoping this would surely be something that Labour would oppose, you’d be very wrong about that, since Shadow Work & Pensions Secretary, the Godawful Blairite Liz Kendall is on record as saying Hunts plans, which include stripping free prescriptions from those who will now be forced to try and find work ill health or no, doesn’t go far enough.
Right so Jeremy Hunt living up to being that word he rhymes with, has been announcing benefit reforms that are completely unnecessary, contrary to common sense, blatantly cruel and borne out of ignorance, appealing to the ignorant right wing of this country who love to see misery being heaped down on other people, mostly I think to make them feel better about their own c**ppy existences. In the firing line this time are those who have, whether still on the old legacy benefit system been ruled unfit for work and are in the support group for Employment and Support Allowance, ESA, or found unfit for work as Universal Credit claimants, in the limited capability for work group, because Hunt is basically looking at scrapping those groups. There’s too many people being deemed unfit for work, therefore we’ll now deem them all fit for work. Hunt is targeting what he calls those people languishing on the long-term sick, but his plans mean the notion of long term or short term become irrelevant, because even new claimants will get caught up in this, therefore it is anyone who is deemed as just sick, regardless of what sickness, what illness, what issues they may have. This could include people waiting for operations and are unable to work until they’ve had it, not just people with ongoing issues, such as cancer, or Long Covid, let alone those with ongoing lifelong disabilities, because to Hunt in his words, they’re all ‘workshy benefit shirkers.’ The one bit I’ve looked for clarification on over this and found nothing is how carers for these people will be affected, since Hunt can legislate changes to who the law sees as sick or not, who is capable of work and who isn’t, but illnesses and disabilities don’t change just because legislation has and people who gave up work to care for those who need it, will still be in that boat of having to care for people Hunt might now decide are capable of work, despite them not being.
