Steven Guilbeault, Canada’s minister of environment and climate change, and Jennifer Morgan, Germany’s state secretary and special envoy for international climate action, provide a virtual update on the climate finance goal to help developing countries adapt to and tackle climate change. The update comes ahead of the United Nations climate change conference (COP28) that is taking place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
At the COP15 summit in 2009, developed nations committed to mobilize US$100 billion per year by 2020 for climate financing. The $100-billion goal was extended in 2015 through to 2025.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces her government will restructure the delivery of health care in the province in a major overhaul of the system. The changes will reduce Alberta Health Services to one of four new service delivery organizations, each with an individual focus on primary care, acute care, continuing care and mental health and addiction.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announces the federal government is investing $2 million to rehabilitate the ravine centre at the Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. The investment will go towards helping to lower energy consumption and emissions through building upgrades, and will also help to create a new Indigenous programming space. Mayor Oliva Chow, Evergreen representatives Helen Burstyn (chair of the board of directors), Suzy Wilcox (director of fundraising) and Jennifer Angel (CEO) as well as Councillor Dianne Saxe also take part in the news conference.
