Tokyo Shrine Tamagawa Suwa Shrine with Pictures of Japanese People 100 Years Ago

Commentary by Tokumochi Shrine, which also serves as the Tamagawa Suwa Shrine

This is the Shinto shrine for the Tamagawa 2-chome area (formerly the Hara area). The shrine was founded in the Jowa period (834-848) and enshrines the spirit of the Suwa-taisha Shrine in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture). Originally, there were two Suwa shrines in the village, the upper shrine and the lower shrine, which were revered by the villagers, but in February 1880, the lower shrine was enshrined together with the upper shrine. The current shrine building was completed in August 2002.

When we visit shrines in Tokyo, we are often amazed at the sanctuaries that have been protected by the people.
Floods, fires, earthquakes, war, and worship.
Small shrines, shrines on the rooftops of buildings, shrines directly under expressways.
Sanctuaries that are close to people in any form, and the guardians who protect them.
I made this video to share these beautiful images with you!
The Japanese landscape and the Japanese people of the past remain in old photographs.
Some of the photos are around 100 years old, some are about 150 years old, and some are 85 years old.
Please feel the connection with people from the past!
