USS Manley (DD-74/AG-28/APD-1) was a Caldwell-class destroyer with a rich history. Commissioned in 1917, she served in World War I and experienced a depth charge incident. After the war, she operated along the U.S. eastern seaboard and the Mediterranean. In the 1930s, she was recommissioned for experiments, served in the Spanish Civil War, and was transformed into the Navy's first high-speed transport (APD-1) in 1939. During World War II, she rescued SS Ulysses survivors, operated in the Pacific, participated in beach landings, and earned accolades. After service and reclassification as DD-74 in 1945, she contributed to Kamikaze attack training. Post-war, Manley was decommissioned, sold for scrapping in 1946, and received various awards, including the Navy Unit Commendation and campaign medals
