Blinken calls for action to end Israeli settler violence in West Bank

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on Israel to take "urgent" action to end settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. He made this call in a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Wartime Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz.

Benny Gantz is the leader of the Israeli opposition. He joined Netanyahu's wartime cabinet following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

In a phone call with Gantz, Blinken called for urgent and positive steps to reduce tensions in the West Bank, the US State Department said in a statement on Thursday. This includes controlling the increasingly violent acts of Israeli settlers.

Blinken also discussed efforts to increase and accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, and ensure that the conflict does not escalate, the statement said.
