Why Are There Oxygen Shortages in India?

You may have heard that there are extreme oxygen shortages happening in India.

Well, or there were a few weeks ago, now they seem to have subsided a bit.

Something similar was also happening in the US since the Covid pandemic, and now Nepal is also reporting similar situations.

But how is this possible?

Oxygen is one of the most abundant molecules on the planet, and it’s relatively easy to concentrate and bottle in tanks. How can there be shortages?

Was Milton Friedman right when he said “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara desert, in 5 years you’d have shortages of sand”?
