If the skies are clear in your area this evening, keep your eyes open. Tonight marks the peak of the Leonids meteor shower, which takes place annually in November.

Its maximum activity will be this evening through dawn on Saturday, and experts say the timing is perfect since the moon will only in its first quarter phase, there will be little moon light to interfere with the sightings.

Leonid meteors result from Earth’s annual passing through the debris wake of the sun-orbiting Comet Tempel-Tuttle.

They are known for being some of the fastest meteors out there, and are often quite colorful.
