Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub are seen installing a synthetic radar communications system during a seven-hour and 41-minute spacewalk today. The device, attached to a payload adapter on the space station’s Nauka module, will begin collecting scientific data of Earth from space.
Ahead of the hardware install, the duo spent the first half of their excursion outside of the orbiting laboratory inspecting and isolating an external backup radiator from Nauka’s cooling system. This marks Kononenko’s sixth spacewalk and Chub’s first
