Blog:
I have been buying quite a few items recently from AliExpress in China, some are bargains, some are junk and others are in between. This is one of the good ones.
Firstly, let me say that this device is widely available on AliExpress from many sellers and at a range of prices. I paid £6.18, which is the lowest priced version I found at the time and it took about two weeks to be delivered to me in the UK with free shipping from China. Tuya makes several other humidity sensors, some round and some square, some battery powered, some USB powered.
In the box, you receive the sensor/display itself, a detachable kickstand mount, and a well written and nicely printed user guide. Build quality is lightweight but seems of good quality with nothing looking likely to fail or fall off anytime soon.
Powered by three AAA batteries, the sensor displays the time, date, temperature and humidity as well as battery and Wifi status on the kickstand supported desktop display. On top of the unit is the only control button, used to turn the backlighting on, which then turns off after a few seconds. It also connects to the Smart Life or Tuya apps to show this information on your phone with a graphical display of the data over time. The Smart Life app, which is the one I mainly use, can be configured to send alerts for low or high temperatures and humidity. The apps also connect with Google and Amazon Alexa. The app connected sensor can be integrated into timers and routines controlled through the apps. I have set up a routine to power on the dehumidifier when the humidity reaches a certain level and to power off when it returns to normal.
I found that it works well and I have had no issues with it so far and after several weeks of use, the battery is still showing as 100%. Usually, at this point I would mention some of the issues with it , but apart from the display being a bit dim when the backlighting is off there is nothing really other than the lack of a proximity sensor for the backlighting, which many will view as a positive advantage.
The main selling points are the remarkably low price and the integration with the Alexa and Smart Home ecosystems and so far I have found this to work perfectly on all three of the sensors I bought.
For the low price, I think it is a pretty decent buy
The Good
