Today we will look at the Liberty Loans or Bonds that were issued in the U.S. during World War One in order to finance the U.S. and Allied war effort.

We will look at how government propaganda used patriotism, jingoism, and celebrities to part with their money by buying government securities.

The worst part about this story is that when it came time for these bonds or loans to be paid back in the 1930s the U.S. government defaulted on them using the 1917 Trading with the Enemy Act in order to justify it.

That is why, in my opinion, you hold government bills, notes and bonds at your own peril.
